Aishwarya Rai: The star of 3 most expensive 2010 films

Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai had an eventful 2010 which saw four of her films getting a release. Though Aishwarya didn’t get the kind of box office response that she deserved, she starred in 3 magnum opuses if money is anything to go by.

For instance, she starred in the film ‘Robot’ or ‘Endhiran’ that was the most expensive film made in India. Made at a cost of over Rs 150 crore it paired Aishwarya up with the South Indian Demi-God Rajinikanth. And this film did a staggering business at box office and at some parts (like Chennai) the theatre owners had to run early morning (3 am) shows to meet the sky-high demand. The only glitch is that Aishwarya was basically a candy floss in that film which was basically a Rajinikanth bonanza.

Apart from ‘Robot’, Aishwarya Rai starred in another expensive film in Mani Ratnam’s ‘Raavan.’ ‘Raavan’ was the 2nd most expensive film of the year and was inspired from the Hindu epic ‘Ramayan.’ However, despite all the hype and hoopla, this ‘Raavan’ was beheaded by critics and audience.

Aishwarya also starred in the 3rd most expensive film of 2010 in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Guzaarish.’ Made at a budget of over Rs 50 crore, this film starring Hrithik Roshan and Ash was heavily appreciated by the critics. The film, indeed, was poetically beautiful with a poignant storyline and masterly cinematography. But unfortunately, ‘Guzaarish’ was a dud at the box office.

Asin for Abhishek?

False speculations claim that Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has refused a film opposite her hubby Abhishek but the truth is that she was never approached for the project and in fact sources associated with the makers of the movie, Vipul Shah, tell us that it is South Indian hottie Asin Thottumkal who is being wooed to be roped in for the film.

Earlier, they were apparently looking to cast Katrina Kaif but she had date issues.

Asin, who has worked with Vipul earlier in the box-office dud London Dreams, is quite keen to take it up.

Aishwarya Rai and Shahrukh Khan: No Salman Khan, no rift

Bollywood actors Aishwarya Rai and Shahrukh Khan are two of the biggest stars of the tinsel town. And it is no surprise that they have a colossal fan following; something that guarantees that the paparazzi keep hounding them.

And recently at the Filmfare nomination bash, the two were spotted together sharing a light moment. Aishwarya Rai was snapped laughing at an apparent joke that the witty King Khan cracked. So, this indicates that things are perfectly alright between SRK and Ash.
However, things haven’t been completely alright between the two over the years and they have been on no-speaking terms before. That was when Aishwarya Rai had to walk out of SRK’s film ‘Chalte Chalte’ following some relationship problems with actor Salman Khan.

At that point of time, Ash and Salman were in a relationship but with Salman trying to control her life, she was finding it hard to maintain amiability. She also had a fall-out with Shahrukh at that time on the sets of ‘Chalte Chalte.’

However, now we can safely say that SRK and Ash are presently very much on cordial terms. There is no rift going on and it’s ironic that both are harbouring cold rivalry with Salman Khan. It’s to be seen if we get to see the ‘Devdas’ jodi back on the silver screen some time!

Aishwarya, Shahrukh, Rani at Sameer Soni and Neelam's wedding reception

Bollywood celebrities turned out in force for Sameer Soni and Neelam’s wedding reception. Neelam looked radiant as she and Samir walked in hand-in-hand to greet the guests.

If Shahrukh Khan, Shilpa Shetty and Aishwarya Rai were there without their partners, Sunil Shetty and Sohail Khan came along with their wives to the event.

Also seen were Rani Mukherjee, Karan Johar, Karisma Kapoor, and several others from the glitterati.

Sameer’s friends from Bigg Boss actor Manoj Tiwari and model Aanchal Kumar also attended the reception.

Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan arrived for Neelam Kothari and Samir Soni’s wedding reception in ethnic wear and found company in Sonali Bendre and Goldie Behl. Shah Rukh Khan came with sleeves rolled up to show a ‘D’ tattoo and posed alongside Rani Mukerji. Shilpa Shetty was picture-perfect in her multi-hued sari coupled with matching earrings. Farhan Akhtar in an open bandhgala and Madhavan in a suit formed part of the male brigade.

Nobody tells Ash what to do

Certainly! If you boast of a Miss World crown, spate of award winning Indian films and acknowledgment at international level. But when the event sees all A-listers in attendance, throwing your weight can infuriate all and sundry.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who is the global face of India, couldn't keep in check the curt side of her at a recently held award function in Singapore. Apart from keeping the organisers on their toes all the time, Aishwarya disrupted the rehearsals of other celebrities by choosing to rehearse her act at her own sweet time without caring if it would clash with others. "Despite repeated requests, Ash refused to come on stage and remained backstage. She made it clear that if she is receiving an award, it has to be handed over by the likes of Shah Rukh Khan and Hrithik Roshan.

We were forced to make the last minute changes to please the lady. She would come for rehearsals at her own sweet time and many a times, it would clash with others who were rehearsing too. Another incident, when we realised the might and the stubborn side of Aishwarya, was when she flatly refused to jump over the trampoline kept on the stage. Like a true sport, Vidya Balan draped in a sari, granted our request of jumping over the trampoline with joy after bagging our award but Aishwarya refused to adhere. She told us that she is Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and need not be told what to do?

We were left with no choice than to keep quiet about the matter. Nevertheless, her performance won accolades from everyone and was certainly the show-stopper. But we still wonder if the lady got up from the wrong side of the bed as she gave us panic attacks at regular intervals," reveals a source. Well, big stars are expected to have bigger tantrums.

Sameer’s new boss

After a low-key wedding on Sunday, newlyweds Neelam Kothari and Sameer Soni held a reception for their friends and family at Taj Land’s End, Bandra, in Mumbai on Monday night. The reception was a starry affair with Shah Rukh Khan, Rani Mukerji and Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan on the guest list. Karan Johar and Farhan Akhtar, who had missed the wedding due to a fashion event, made up by being in attendance. Mukerji met SRK like his best buddy, but kept her distance from Ash. The two ladies wore colours that dominated the evening — Mukerji, along with Karisma Kapur and society bee Queenie Singh, opted for the ethereal-in-white look whereas Rai Bachchan, Mana Shetty and Mandira Bedi sported shocking pink outfits. Shilpa Shetty, however, was the show-stealer, elegantly dressed in a chiffon sari. Other guests included R Madhavan who, as always, attended with his wife, Chunky and Bhavna Pandey, Sanjay and Maheep Kapoor, Sanjay Suri, Sohail and Seema Khan and Juhi Chawla.

Golden Kela Awards: Shah Rukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan among Bollywood's "shiniest shit"

Just as the Razzies are gearing up to raze Hollywood egos, the third annual Golden Kela Awards are set to make Bollywood go bananas with its nominees for the "shiniest shit to hit the silver screens" in India.

Even some of Bollywood's megastars are in the mix, including Shah Rukh Khan (worst actor for My Name is Khan ) and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan ( Raavan ).

Priyanka Chopra ( Anjaana Anjaani ), Deepika Padukone ( Housefull and Break Ke Baad ), and Hrithik Roshan ( Guzaarish ) are all up for worst acting awards as well.

Even Mexican star Bárbara Mori received a worst acting nomination for her role in Kites , one of Bollywood's attempt to cross-over to the Latin American market.

Indian filmmaker Yash Chopra might want to rethink his approach. He was nominated for the Baawra Ho Gaya Hai Ke Award (which roughly translates as "Have you gone crazy?"). Chopra received one nomination for the award, but not for just one film—for four films: Pyaar Impossible , Badmaash Company , Lafangey Parindey , Band Baaja Baraat . Among his competition is the whole cast and crew of My Name is Khan .

The hilariously named 3 Idiots Childbirth Award For Most Ridiculous Sequence in a Film Award includes nominations for the second half of My Name is Khan , the mosquito sequence from Robot , the gorilla sequence from No Problem , the end sequence from Knock Out , and the whole movie Prince .

Housefull was full of nominations, tying Action Replayy with six nominations. My Name is Khan received five nominations.

Want to have your say on what shiny shit stunk the worst in Bollywood last year? You can have your say by voting for your picks at the Golden Kela Awards website.
